A Good Man – Joshua’s Wedding Vows

It’s well past my bedtime, but I can’t sleep, torn between love and hate. Love for him, walking the streets as he searches for bodies. Hate for the anxiety keeping my fingers tapping the phone, waiting for him to call me for the third time this evening.

We’d talked once already, so I was surprised when he called a second time 20 minutes later.

“Honey, I can’t stay here,” he said. “I’m bundled up, getting ready for bed, but the blankets, hats, scarves, gloves we got together for the homeless … they’re here, in my warm home. I can’t stay. They can’t stay.”

The sleet hits my bedroom window, as I listen to what breaks his heart, what moves him. He asks, “Can I go to the store and buy tarps, hats and gloves? I want to go downtown and give them out.”

We’re not yet married, but are treating our finances as if we are. Making our decisions as if we are.

And so I say yes. Yes, bundle up in your coat. Bundle up the blankets and hats and scarves. But please, be careful, my anxious heart tweaks. Because it’s one thing to serve the homeless with a group of friends on a bright sunny afternoon. It’s another to approach them alone on a dark, freezing night.

He calls me back for the long-awaited third phone call, over an hour later. This time I hear his heart bundled up in joy, relief, gladness. He helped fit swollen, chapped hands with just the right pair of gloves. Picked the Carolina blue hat out for the man wearing a sky colored jacket. Wrapped blankets up in tarps for the homeless to wrap up in against the bracing wind, against the bracing world.

Though he delivered warmth to others living on the frigid benches and underpasses in downtown, he’s warmed my heart. And showed me once again what an amazing and good man he is. One I can trust to put God first …. others above himself, including me.

And this is exactly what Joshua vowed to me at our wedding. What a man. An amazing, loving, God-honoring man. So thankful to call him my husband!

Wow there are no words here , I just know what an amazing couple you all are and the Love that you all have for Jesus is contagious and makes me want to live like that.
You all blow me away just by your love for God and others
    Thank you all
May God abundantly bless you both and may you all continue to have a passion to serve Jesus, and keep those ambers burning brightly in your hearts.
    Love Carol

  2. You got a good one. Congrats. Tell Joshua thank you for allowing you to share his words. Reading them reminds me that there really are guys like him. Trying to be patient .

  3. Hello Sam (Love your name, cause I also have a ‘Sam’):
I became acquainted with you through a ‘Proverbs 31’ devotional, that I received via email. I’ve been getting them daily for about 8yrs now. I’ve related to a few of the women, who’ve written for ‘Proverbs 31’, but not like I have related to the things you have written; which has prompted me to come to your website.
This particular ‘IOU’ written by your husband astounds me. I have never been more jealous, because this was my hope for marriage, but I was a new believer and anxious for marriage, so I took the wrong road and the wrong mate. I’ve been married 31yrs (which is a miracle in itself), but my marriage vows and committment was to the Lord first and my husband second. But I’ve kept my vow to the Lord, to remain married until death parts my husband and myself; and the Lord Jesus has honored that, though at times I have been a hair away from walking out the door for good.
I’m sure you know how blessed you are to have found love, trust and respect in this man, enough to commit your life to him. And there aren’t sufficient words to express the magnitude of such a blessing, only that it is truly a union created of God.
May you continue to be servants of God as He wills and may your love for each other bind you together for the remainder of your lives here and into eternity.

Tutto è alla luce del sole e facilmente interpretabile… Bang Bum Bam… fine del discorso 🙂

  4. Joshua, you are a Godly man. Dave, my husband, always told me, “It’s my job to protect you and provide for you” and I’d reply, “And it’s my job to take care of you.” Godly marriage 101. Dave died in 11/11 so now I remind God of His promises because I need to remember.

    • Not new. This was done in the US about 20 years earlier (10 years earlier using the molten salt storage idea). Google “solar one project” or see (The_Solar_Project at wikipedia). True, the title is technically correct, but misleading since all they did, fundamentally, was add a larger storage tank.

  10. Your way of telling everything in this post is actually nice,

  15. Hello Dear, are you actually visiting this site regularly, if so after that you will absolutely obtain
    good knowledge.

  16. So beautiful! So refreshing! So encouraging! Thank you for sharing. God has called me to make my pursuit of Him my supreme focus. I’ve been nervous to do this for fear that my dream of getting married and having more children would be in great jeopardy if I chose to focus more on my relationship with God than my dream of a family. What God is showing me and reminding me of is that every desire that He has placed in my heart is aligned with His will for my life and will surely come to pass. And even if it doesn’t, nothing can beat living the life He has already created for me.

  17. Nice replies in return of this question with firm arguments and describing the

  19. Some of these stores carry styles not sold in the regular locations and this will
help you find something completely different. As you
tackle planning each aspect of the wedding, refer to the
binder to help you discuss the options with florists, DJs,
decorators, venues and other wedding vendors you meet with along
the way. For instance, when you are thinking about an outdoor event, consider what type of
elements your dress will be exposed to.

  20. Many of these new creations are about shape and texture as much as color and style.

Thread and stitching – thread used in stitching is always the same as the colour of the leather.
Moccasin UGG slippers are quite popular among the men.
