Prayers from Scripture

Hey there. Coming over from Proverbs 31 Ministries today? Welcome, we’re glad you’re here!

Seasons of silence rolled by. My soul, not uplifting or breathing or whispering. Too struggling to utter a hope.

Seasons of cheering galloped past. My heart, glittering and ranging and lilting. Too joyful to swallow silence.

And for every moment in between, I found a prayer was written in the ancient scrolls. For you. For me. Listen, search, find yours. Inhale its truths, exhale its praise. The same God who ordained these scriptures faithfully, is faithful to answer them still. Yes. Thankful for 2000 year old promises apply even today. See?

Mercy and healing: 2 Kings 20:2-3, Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, “Remember, O LORD, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.”

Longing for a child: 1 Samuel 1:10-11, In bitterness of soul Hannah wept much and prayed to the LORD. And she made a vow, saying, “O LORD Almighty, if you will only look upon your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”

Waiting: Psalm 13, How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Look on me and answer, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death; my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall. But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.

Desperation: All of Psalm 61, Psalm 143

Provision: 1 Chronicles 4:10, Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.

2 Samuel 7:28-29, O Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your words are trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant. Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, O Sovereign LORD, have spoken, and with your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever.”

Fearful: 2 Chronicles 14:11, Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, “LORD, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. O LORD, you are our God; do not let man prevail against you.”

Thanks: Revelation 7:11-12,  All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying: “Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!”

Psalm 7:17: I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

ForgivenessPsalm 51, Have mercy on me, O God,  according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.

Acts 7:59-60, While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

Luke 18:13, “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

Glorifying God: Habakkuk 3:1-19, LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O LORD. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known;  in wrath remember mercy.

Jude 1:24-25, To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

Daniel 2:20-23 , Then Daniel praised the God of heaven and said:  “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him. I thank and praise you, O God of my fathers: You have given me wisdom and power, you have made known to me what we asked of you,  you have made known to us the dream of the king.”

Depression & anxiety: Psalm 94:19, Unless the LORD had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your love, O LORD, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.

For others: Ephesians 3:14-21, For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,  so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,  may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Numbers 6:24-26: The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.

Anytime, all the time: Matthew 6:9-13, “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,  your kingdom come, your will be done  on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts,  as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

  3. Psalm 31:24 ” Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.”
    Thanks so much for the encouragment. God’s Word is as sharp as a double edged sword and has the power to change and transorm. I will refer back to this many times, cant get enough.

  4. 2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Please accept my sincere thanks for your Prov31 devotion today (1/5). Powerful words of encouragement as I head into the new year!   6. Psalm 91:4, He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. I have this picture of a moma bird sheltering two baby birds—one on either side of her—with her wings, and this verse is below it. The verse and the visual picture remind me how God loves me and how there is nothing to fear for God is with me. A song also comes to mind when I view it “Oh no you never let go through the calm and through the storm…..Lord you never let go of me”. Thank you Samantha for your encouragement and the list of God’s faithful promises from the bible.

  8. Guidance for the future
    Psalm 32: 8
    8 The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
    I will advise you and watch over you.

    unending thanks and praise to the God who saves His children.

  10. Why does God do what He does? So many times, I find His answer in Scripture: “Then you will know that I am the Lord your God….” All along, the desire of His heart is to know and be known by His children.

    “I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.: -Isaiah 45:3

  11. “Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.” –Psalm 25:4-5

    This passage promises me that God has everything under His control. His plan, His truth and His purpose is so much greater than I can fathom. I cling to Him as I walk through the valleys of my life and soar with Him from the mountain tops. What more do I really need?

  12. I read your devotional for the day on Encouragement for Today, and hopped over to your site. Between the devotional and these Scriptures, I can finally find some peace. It’s always been hard for me to believe God is going to do something good, but these verses help me accept that times when God seems silent or far away, there’s a Divine plan I’m just not in on – yet. Waiting is so very hard, but thank you for this collection of verses, God’s word makes it all a little easier.

    For the last several years I have held onto two verses already mentioned.
    Both Jeremiah 29:11 and Isaiah 40:31 have pulled me through challenging times.
    This year I have printed out the full chapter of I Corinthians 13 into poster form and hung it where I will see it each day. Most people know this chapter or several verses from wedding ceremonies. I read it and am taking it upon myself to review my relationships with all the people I know or meet and to live this on a daily basis. Some verses are easier than others; but some will take real effort on my part to truly live them each day.
    Thank you ……….Sam for you openness, P31 for your work and the respondents for other verses and new perspectives. I thank the Lord everyday for listening as I ask for help with broken families and hurts in my own life; but this year I will work harder at working together with him.

  23. When we need strength: Philip 4:11 (paraphrase) I can do ALL things through CHRIST who gives me the the strength I need.

    I would suggest taking this verse and others & inserting your name-this really helps make the promise (s) more personal to your situation.

Your blog brought me peace today as I read over the scriptures you and others had written.   25. Thank you for your devotion today. I have never thought about how as the painful things were happening in the lives of the people of the Bible, God was planning His redemption.
    My favorite verse is Zephaniah 3;17: The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.
    Recently a new verse has been brought to my attention over and over: Isaiah 43:18-19: 18 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
    I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.

    …..i write this as my phone has been disconnected this morning….. and though it happened i have such a peace instead of anger that things will work out………..quite strange actually but i know what that is 🙂

    anyways…….my family and my self personally are going through struggling times just as much as anyone else….and all last year we worried and worried and really just was in the “defeat mode” all of last year

    we more or less started the new year the same but recently started going to a new bible study. it’s already been a blessing and after REALLY searching scripture like i should have been doing all along and REALLY praying like i should have……..the Lord has really shown me things in my own heart the past few days………however……it was nessasary to see the things that are in my heart (though not pretty) so i can allow Him to do His thing instead of me do my thing …..just wanted to say thank you 🙂

    We are surrounded by life circumstances that would beat us and get us to doubt how good Jesus is, but scripture repeatedly reassures us of His Grace, Goodness, Mercy, Faithfulness, Compassion, Comfort and Strength. We just have to read His Word and let it minister to our hearts. I have scriptures written on note cards all around my house and office to remind me and to read when I am starting to feel oppressed by this life. No matter what my circumstances, Jesus is ALWAYS good!

    Jeremiah 29:12-14
    12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you.” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and place where I have banished you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”

    When tempted:
    No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

    – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.
    – in all your ways acknowledge Him, and HE SHALL DIRECT YOUR PATH.

    Gods leading always leads to rest on every issue no matter how trival we think it might be. When ever I surrender a matter to Him, I feel chauffer driven by God himself while I hold my peace!

    And, we always arrive safely, right on time …………………..me and GOD!

  33. Here is my verse I’m praying for healing of my friend Ben, who was just told that the cancer that had been healed earlier this year had returned. He is being told that his heart is not strong enough for the treatment that they were planning to give. I do not claim that and am praying that God will touch Ben again with His healing hand….

    “(Psalms 103:1-4 NKJV) Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! {2} Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: {3} Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, {4} Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies.”

In my broken spirit from an incredible betrayal, I’ve been praying thru Ps 25, that even in–ESPECIALLY IN– my brokenness I would abide in Him, recognize His friendship with me, and that He would break through my loneliness, see my affliction and remind me of His steadfast love. Some days I read Scripture and still find myself numb as though it just doesn’t register, but I read it anyway and pray for God to renew my heart. This devo, with so many “BUT GOD” moments, somehow broke thru the numbness and awakened my heart again. He is Faithful! He is True! He works all together toward our good, for those of us who love Him! Thank you for the reminders of His faithfulness. After re-reading the examples in Scripture several times, I humbly acknowledged that I believe God will do the same for me. And He did, later that very day, answering in one big swoop several prayer requests all at once in a way I didn’t expect. Ladies, keep trusting. Even in the midst of heartache and pain, find a way to worship Him for who He is. Powerful. Mighty. Trustworthy. He will answer your prayers in His perfect timing. And you will come out stronger on the other side.

    Thank you for this blog. My husband and I have one child, 26 yrs old, and he is now in a ‘prodigal son’ situation. We are praying daily for him and I’m wondering if I actually think God is not big enough to handle this prayer request? After reading the Proverbs 31 devotional for yesterday, I saw the examples of how God worked in the lives of his people in the Bible. I printed it off and will keep it in front of me to pray positively for God’s will to be done and use those verses as encouragement. My God IS big enough to handle anything I have to deal with.
