The Antidote to Loneliness

Welcome Encouragement for Today readers. If you are visiting with us today, I am thankful to share God’s Word with you. May I also invite you to join our More Than Enough Facebook page community? We love Jesus and lift each other up daily. (My sweet sister shares her beautiful photographs with me, like the ones you see below. For beautiful inspiration from her, click here to ‘like’ her FB page as well.)

Weary hearts need a hushed place to rest, away from the battle of loneliness. He’s powerful, strong and disarming.

Long seasons on the front line can be exhausting and rob us of peace. We need rest and refreshment. And so, we turn to the One who is greater. And write His Word on our hearts and memories to wield against the enemies of our soul.

Familiar thoughts?
I can’t do this another day
I don’t want to fight anymore
This is too much to bear

I wonder, friend, what would a snapshot of your soul tell? A thousand words of peace, trust, and security? Or a thousand words of doubt, fear, pain? Has this become your battle hymn; your war cry?

Oh that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest; yes, I would wander far away; I would lodge in the wilderness; I would hurry to find a shelter from the raging wind and tempest. {Psalm 55:6-8}

Loneliness isolates and holds us captive in the battle, feeding us lies …

God is not big enough
Things will never change
I will feel lonely
But the truth is, we have a Savior who passionately pursued us. Whose very birth declares we are not alone. His excruciating death reigns truth over the lies and proclaims that we are loved beyond measure.

Poisons require antidotes. Wounds require balm. Freedom requires a victor. {Tim Hansel, Through the Wilderness of Loneliness}

Our antidote is the Word. It is a balm. Christ is our victor. Even the darkest night is chased by the dawn and every battle must end at some time. Friend, I know loneliness can be all-consuming. And so I encourage you to pray these verses and allow them to be your truth … your freedom song.

I give abundant showers
I refresh My weary inheritance.
Jeremiah 31:25

I bring you out into a spacious place; I rescue you because you delight in Me.
Psalm 18:19

 fear not; you are mine
when you pass through the waters, I will be with you
when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you
when you walk through the fire, you will not be burned
for I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior
since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you
do not be afraid, for I am with you
Isaiah 43

“… do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” ~Philippians 4:6-7

Mindful prayers are the most, not the least we can do. Let’s join ranks and lift each other up in prayer. Leave your prayer request for the person who comments ahead of you to pray over and if you have a favorite scripture on peace, please leave that too. Thanks!
